Fire on the desert
I've said it before and I'l say it again: planes are absurd. So are pink skies. Sprawl is absurd. Ninety five degree weather in October is absurd. The limitations of human capacity for rational thought is perhaps the most absurd of all these things.
When I figure out what it is about all these things that is making me so damn furious, and then how to articulate said fury, you're all going to get an ear full. Or eye full, as is more the case here.

Ricky is 40 and divorced and seldom wears a shirt. He talks quickly and without focus, and he likes to ask people to help him move furniture which he buys at wonderful clearance discounts. He is perhaps overly friendly, but doesn't detain you for an uncomfortably long periods of time, as you might expect. He still makes his neighbors nervous.
----
The alternative grocery store looks exactly like a regular grocery store, except there's a bulk grains section and the models on the covers of he magazines in the checkout lanes are dressed in a much more earthy-looking manner. Niche capitalism at its finest, ladies and gentleman. Do not be fooled. It doesn't solve a single damn problem, it just changes the way the problems look. Ten years from now, when the first volley of articles and books about the shortcomings of these "new" institutions starts appearing, we will be shocked and appalled, but it will be too late already, for the beast will have taken its next form, which in turn will go on unrecognized until well after its next metamorphasis. Lesson? Tear it down as soon as it goes up, assuming you can't stop it from going up to begin with. Maybe.
